    What Is Paint Correction?

    Swirl Marks

    Under direct sunlight or a single overhead light, swirl marks appear as a spider-web or circular pattern across the paint, most visible on dark colours. They are caused by:

    • Washing with incorrect technique (circular scrubbing, wrong mitt type)
    • Dry wiping dust or bird droppings with a dry cloth
    • Improper use of a rotary buffer at a shop

    Swirl marks are not scratches through the clear coat - they are micro-marring of the clear coat's surface. A properly calibrated machine polisher with the correct compound can remove them in one to two polish stages.     Oxidation

    Oxidation is what happens when UV radiation, oxygen, and moisture break down the chemical structure of clear coat over time.
